Shaken and Stirred: A 20s and 30s Mixer at the Oak Park Public Library

***UPDATE 02.07.12: Wow! We couldn’t be more excited about the great registration turnout. Due to the overwhelming response, All SPOTS ARE NOW FULL. Feel free to register if you’d like to be wait listed should something open up. And email us anytime at genre-x@oppl.org if you are interested in being notified of future events. ***

We know it’s hard to meet new people after college. Can you honestly think of a better place to meet someone than a library? Locking eyes over the Vonnegut section? Or maybe your hands brush while reaching for the last copy of Infinite Jest? Well, genre X is helping you out and shaking up traditional speed dating in an afterhours event open to all men and women in their 20s and 30s on Saturday, February 11th from 8:00-11:00 PM.

Help yourself to a drink on the house before diving into the mix. You’ll mingle with everybody during three series of short mini-dates, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Flirt with potential dates and stir up some new friendships. Cool off between heats with a trip to the cash bar. After you’ve made the rounds, let us know who has piqued your curiosity, and we’ll let you know if they feel the same way.

Preregister now – and do it quickly! We’re expecting available slots to fill up fast. Confirmations will be sent out starting February 3rd. Still have more questions? Check out some of our frequently asked questions below.

Shaken and Stirred FAQs

How do I sign up?

Visit us at http://oppl.org/shaken-and-stirred-registration and enter all of your pertinent information. Please remember to include a picture of your face to help other minglers remember you. We’ll collect everyone’s submissions and then start contacting confirmed registrants on February 3rd. We’re hoping for optimal balance, so not everyone who applies may get in. Register early and tell your friends!

Can I sign up if I’m gay/straight/looking for friends only?

Absolutely. Our unique setup means you’ll meet everyone at the event for potential friendship or romantic interest, so we’re welcoming everyone between the ages of 21 and 39. Please keep in mind that given the nature of the event, spaces are limited in favor of a good mix.

Is it really free?

Yes! This event is totally free of charge. Everyone will get one free drink, and we will have a cash bar in case you want another.

Will you share my information?

Your contact information will be shared only with those people you select. We will not share your information with any other organization or agency.

How does the dating event work?

Each registrant will be given a mini-date (about 3 minutes) with every other person at the event with our assignment and direction. We will also have several “mingling” periods where you can talk with others in larger groups, get a drink, or take a break. At the end of the event you’ll tell us who you might want to meet again, and whether you’re interested in them romantically or as friends. We’ll collect everyone’s submissions and contact you afterwards with your matches.

I have more questions!

Feel free to contact us at genre-x@oppl.org with any other questions you might have. Hope to see you there!

How did it go?

Since it was so popular (and not everyone who wanted to could attend), I hope you will be repeating it sometime soon.

Looked like a GREAT IDEA to me!
